Instead of describing what happened (e.g., not getting the job you wanted), you attach a negative label to yourself (e.g. This one instance does not define who they are - but the label makes it seem so. But maybe they’re just having a bad day or grieving. Usually, these labels are negative and aimed at yourself or others.įor instance, if you just met someone who seemed stand-offish, you might call them a jerk. In other words, you believe something to be true based on your emotional response, rather than facts or objective reasoning. This cognitive distortion is when you let your emotions dictate reason. If you missed today’s goals, you can often pick up again tomorrow. Most things in life are not all or nothing. For instance, you miss a day of doing something you promised to do every day this month - e.g., not drinking, avoiding caffeine, having a study hour - and now you’ve “failed,” so you might as well give it up, right?

11/18/2023 0 Comments Cognitive and affective learningOnce we have formed them, both schemas and attitudes allow us to judge quickly and without much thought whether someone or something we encounter is good or bad, helpful or hurtful, to be sought out or avoided. An attitude is a knowledge representation that includes primarily our liking or disliking of a person, thing, or group (“I really like Julie” “I dislike my new apartment”). A schema is a knowledge representation that includes information about a person or group (e.g., our knowledge that Joe is a friendly guy or that Italians are romantic). Two types of knowledge are particularly important in social psychology: schemas and attitudes. Over time, people develop a set of social knowledge that contains information about the self, other people, social relationships, and social groups. A big part of its job is social cognition-thinking about and understanding other people. Figure 1.6 The cerebral cortex is the part of the brain that is involved in thinking. Social cognition is cognition that relates to social activities and that helps us understand and predict the behavior of ourselves and others. Psychologists refer to cognition as the mental activity of processing information and using that information in judgment. Humans are highly intelligent, and they use cognition in every part of their social lives. The distinguishing brain feature in mammals, including humans, is the more recently evolved cerebral cortex-the part of the brain that is involved in thinking. The human brain contains about 86 billion neurons, each of which can make contact with tens of thousands of other neurons. Social Cognition: Thinking and Learning about Others Now let’s consider separately the roles of cognition, affect, and behavior. Although we will frequently discuss each of the capacities separately, keep in mind that all three work together to produce human experience. You can see that these three aspects directly reflect the idea in our definition of social psychology-the study of the feelings, behaviors, and thoughts of individuals in the social situation. In order to effectively maintain and enhance our own lives through successful interaction with others, we rely on these three basic and interrelated human capacities:įigure 1.5 Human beings rely on the three capacities of affect, behavior, and cognition, which work together to help them create successful social interactions. Social psychology is based on the ABCs of affect, behavior, and cognition. The functional length of a bit determines how deep a hole can be drilled, and also determines the stiffness of the bit and accuracy of the resultant hole.A very acute point angle has more web surface area presented to the work at any one time, requiring an aggressive lip angle, where a flat bit is extremely sensitive to small changes in lip angle due to the small surface area supporting the cutting edges. The proper amount of lip clearance is determined by the point angle. Both conditions can cause binding, wear, and eventual catastrophic failure of the tool. A greater lip angle will cause the bit to cut more aggressively under the same amount of point pressure as a bit with a smaller lip angle. The lip angle determines the amount of support provided to the cutting edge. The correct point angle for the hardness of the material influences wandering, chatter, hole shape, and wear rate. Harder materials require a larger point angle, and softer materials require a sharper angle. The point angle, or the angle formed at the tip of the bit, is determined by the material the bit will be operating in.Low spiral (low twist rate or "elongated flute") drill bits are used in cutting applications where high cutting speeds are traditionally used, and where the material has a tendency to gall on the bit or otherwise clog the hole, such as aluminum or copper. A fast spiral (high twist rate or "compact flute") drill bit is used in high feed rate applications under low spindle speeds, where removal of a large volume of chips is required. Please comment if you have 3+ adapters or mixed MoCA genertaions on your network. I’m trying to decide if a pair of 2.5 will be enough or do I need to replace the 2.0 or only use it for connections that are less active (rarely used locations, printers, etc.). Given the shared bandwidth, is it reasonable to expect the two 2.0 computers will be communicating at half rate and the 2.5 adapters en dup with just a half duplex gigabit connection? What about when one main device is talking to both a 2.5 and 2.0 simultaneously? What if I have a pair of 2.0 Bonded talking to each other at the same time as the 2.5 talking to each other. Now if I added a pair of 2.5 adapters to my network, the two 2.5 will get a full duplex 1gbps when no other devices are communicating. Assuming they all consume data at the same rate it would be roughly 300mbps for each. So if I add another 2.0 Bonded adapter I will dropped to a lower rate when all 3 devices are transmitting. So that’s easy to figure out if I have purely all adapters of the same generation. Given that all the devices share the same coax network I know that the total bandwidth is shared for the entire network. The speed will be based on the slowest negotiated speed between two points of communication. I know that as long as all the devices are at least MoCA 1.1 or higher, having a slower device shouldn’t slow down all the endpoints. I have a few questions for those of you running multiple devices. Buy ScreenBeam Bonded MoCA 2.0 Network Adapter (2-Pack) featuring MoCA 2.0 / 1.1 / 1.0 Compatible, Data Throughput Up to 1 Gbps, Works Over Existing Coaxial Wiring, 2 x Coaxial Connectors, 1 x Ethernet Port, Supports Up to 16 Devices (Including NC), Power, Coax, Ethernet LEDs. I do not have cable or satellite TV and have isolated my cable modem connection from my MoCA network to avoid any possible interference or need for a PoE adapter. Now I am looking at expanding this setup since I have cable coax going to nearly every room in this older house but no easy way to run Cat6 everywhere. I’ve had really bad experience with HPNA and the inflated ratings, so I was pleasantly surprised that my two Bonded Actiontec MoCA 2.0 adapters were able to get 850+ mbps. Thanks to the posts on SNB I started experimenting with MoCA. 11/18/2023 0 Comments Tux paint game onlineSupport is added for user-specific data files (brushes, stamps).
